Bonus: Catching Ho-oh
Since our journey takes us back to Ciudad Verde now, let’s try getting our first legendary, Ho-Oh!
Ho-Oh appears on Ruta 1 with 1% chance. It’s at nivel 50. It’s a normal encounter, so podés encounter it again even if you catch or defeat it.
To catch it in reasonable time, I’d suggest the following setup:
-
Buy some Max Repels and LOTS of
Ultra Balls (although there will be better balls -
Timer Balls - podés use to catch it later on if you don’t mind waiting). The tasa de captura of Ho-Oh is very low.
Max Repels will be used to avoid encounters. The trick is that they only prevent encounters with Pokémon of lower level than the one in your first slot. If that Pokémon is at a reasonable level, BUT not greater than 50, Repelente Máximo will avoid all standard Pokémon on Ruta 1, so podés only encounter Ho-Oh. You might walk a long time before that happens, but it’s considerably quicker than fighting normal battles or escaping them. -
Your leading Pokémon should be a Beedrill. That’s because Beedrill has the Swarm ability which doubles tasa de aparición — leads to less wasted Repels.
-
You need some source of paralysis to improve tasa de captura. Pikachu’s Nuzzle is a good one, since you definitely have a Pikachu and since Nuzzle always causes paralysis. While sleep would improve tasa de captura more than paralysis, paralysis has the advantage of never wearing off.
-
You need something strong to beat Ho-Oh down — I’ll leave the choice to you. Falso tortazo (TM54) on a high-level Pokémon would be nice since it can’t KO.
-
Before trying to find Ho-Oh, SAVE THE GAME. Even when you find Ho-Oh, it might still take multiple attempts, and even an unsuccessful attempt will cost you lots of valuable
Ultra Balls. If you encounter Ho-Oh and fail to catch it, reload and try again.
Once you find Ho-Oh, Paralyse it, reduce its HP and start chucking
Ultra Balls. Ho-Oh has Recover and three damage-dealing moves: Fire Blast, Sacred Fire, and Punishment. To avoid Ho-Oh’s STAB high power fire type moves, you could use a Pokémon with Flash Fire ability (like Vulpix, Growlithe, or Ponyta). These are completely immune to Fire Blast and Sacred Fire, leaving Punishment as the only attack that will work.
If you manage para obtener a Ho-Oh, congratulations! — you got a powerful legendary and the rest of el juego got easier.
